Eat, Dance, Sleep, Repeat! 🎵
Dancing to live music is my favorite type of meditation! It gets me out of my self-conscious head and into my body and soul.
Music is a very powerful tool to lift your spirit. During my dark period of depression, I stopped listening to music until one of my therapist asked me what type of music I liked to listen to. Then, little by little, I got back into it.
At first, I would only listen to quiet or calm music. Mozart became my best friend. I would take a taxi to work every morning, with my red Sony earphones, listening to Mozart and imaging myself in a movie.
These days, “Eat, dance, sleep, repeat!” is my new mantra!
And now both Mozart and Shakira are my best friends.
I like to listen to the same songs over and over until I discover a new one that lights up my soul.
I put together a list just for you of some of my favorite songs for sleeping, working, singing, relaxing and dancing!
Enjoy,
Monica
Music for Singing
I like anything by Shakira, especially these:
Zootopia - Try Everything (It encourages me to try everything and keep making mistakes…)
Amarillo (It also encourages me to try everything and keep making mistakes…)
After watching “A Star is Born,” I added Lady G to my repertory. (I must confess, I didn’t know it was her until the credits!)
Shallow - Lady Gaga, Bradley Cooper (you know why!)
Million Reasons - Lady Gaga (there’s a hundred million reason why I love it!)
Always Remember Us This Way - Lady Gaga
Katy makes me dance and roar…
Roar - Katy Perry (dancing through the fire, because I’m a champion! I’m powerful, and so are you!)
This one popped up and I was singing it immediately:
Thinking Out Loud - Ed Sheeran (it makes me feel loved and happy!)
Music for Relaxing
Imagine yourself lying in bed with the lights dimmed, listening to jazz playing just loud enough to hear your thoughts disappearing one at time. You’ve been captivated by the music. My friend, Carlos Barba, has a new single (Alfie) that does just that!
Alfie is definitely my new favorite! My other favorite songs from Carlos are "Arabesque," "Bluebird," and "Serenity."
GANESH MAHA MANTRA is wonderful to remove all obstacles. If you’ve been to my yoga classes or workshops, this mantra is going to sound very familiar.
Music for Working
This one is king of tricky; the music I listen to depends on what I’m working on. When I need to concentrate, this Mozart list does the trick (sometimes Shakira works, too!).
